Did not come across this situation before.

Companies A & B are controlled group

Company A sponsors plan # 001

They want to add 2 more plans but the want company B to be the sponsor

Are the new plans required to be #002 and #003?

Thanks

^^^if plans are identified specifically as a combo of EIN plus PN, that seems logical....

You only need to make sure that no EIN/PN combination is repeated. There is no requirement of which I'm aware that mandates sequential plan numbering.

The only "requirement" that I have seen is from the 5500 instructions. This is from the instructions to 5500-SF, there is similar (but more complex, addressing DFEs and such) wording on the full 5500.

I thought Belgarath had it right - since the EIN is different you'd start over with 001 and go from there.
