Schechter Benefits Law Group LLP is proud to announce that Partners Marc S. Schechter, Corey F. Schechter, and Paul D. Woodard have been recognized in the 2026 San Diego Super Lawyers list. This recognition marks Marc S. Schechter's fourteenth year on the Super Lawyers list. Corey F. Schechter has been named to the Rising Stars list for the tenth time, and Paul D. Woodard has been recognized on the Super Lawyers list following multiple years of selection to the Rising Stars list. Marc S. Schechter, a founding partner of the firm, specializes in employee benefits, ERISA, and business matters, with a particular focus on ESOP transactions. He is admitted to practice before the courts of California and New Jersey; the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, and Northern Districts of California; the United States Tax Court; the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Schechter is a member of the Employee Benefits-Taxation Section of the State Bar of California and the Taxation Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. He has also served on the Legislative and Regulatory Advisory Committee of The ESOP Association. Mr. Schechter was recently recognized as one of San Diego's 500 Most Influential People in 2025 by the San Diego Business Journal. Corey F. Schechter focuses his practice on employee benefits law (ERISA) and executive compensation matters, benefit plan compliance and IRS/DOL audits, ERISA fiduciary counseling, ERISA litigation, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs), and business and employment law. He is admitted to practice before the courts of California; the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, and Northern Districts of California; the United States Tax Court; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Schechter is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Western Pension & Benefits Council – San Diego Chapter, and the Business Law and Tax Law sections of the State Bar of California. Paul D. Woodard concentrates his practice on employee benefits law, employee stock ownership plans, pension, profit sharing and 401(k) plans, ERISA litigation, business law and litigation, qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs), estate planning, and trust litigation. He is admitted to practice in California and Wisconsin; the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California; the United States Tax Court; and the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals. Mr. Woodard has served as President of the Western Pension & Benefits Council, San Diego Chapter Executive Committee; co-chair of Wills for Heroes, San Diego Chapter; and as an At-Large Board Member of the San Diego County Bar Association's Community Service Committee. Since 2017, he has served as Co-Vice President for Corporate Relations of the Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce. Robert K. Butterfield now serves as Of Counsel to the firm. Mr. Butterfield practiced law in San Diego for more than four decades and is widely respected for his work in employee benefits, tax, estate planning, and corporate law. He remains active in the community and continues to provide strategic guidance to the firm and its clients.
