Press Release Kantor & Kantor Names ERISA Attorney Kirsten Scott Partner in San Francisco |
Issued by Kantor & Kantor LLP June 17, 2026 |
Kantor & Kantor, LLP has appointed employee benefits attorney Kirsten Scott as a partner in its San Francisco office, strengthening the firm’s Pension Practice Group with a veteran litigator who brings nearly two decades of experience representing employees, retirees, and beneficiaries in ERISA and employee benefits disputes. Scott joined the firm effective June 15 and will focus on a broad range of employee benefits matters, including pension and disability claims under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), disability retirement claims involving the San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System, and class action litigation related to severance and health benefits. The appointment expands the firm’s capabilities in a practice area that continues to see heightened demand as employers, retirement plans, and insurers face increasing scrutiny over benefit administration, disability determinations, and retirement obligations. “We are very excited to welcome Kirsten Scott to the firm’s Pension practice group,” said Susan Meter, senior partner at Kantor & Kantor. “Her dedication to advocating for participants and retirees aligns perfectly with the Pension practice group mission and her expertise in employee benefits law is nothing short of extraordinary. Kirsten is a tremendous asset to both our clients and our team of attorneys because of her extensive knowledge of employee benefits litigation.” Scott joins the national employee benefits and insurance litigation firm with an established record in complex benefits disputes. Among her notable cases is Irvin v. Contra Costa County Employees’ Retirement Association, a 2017 California Court of Appeal decision involving public employee retiree benefits under the County Employees Retirement Law. She also represented retirees in Beeson v. Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co., Inc., a case that resulted in a $36.8 million judgment following a seven-month civil trial. Her practice has focused on helping employees and retirees secure pension, disability, severance, life insurance, and other workplace benefits, often involving disputes with employers, plan administrators, and insurance carriers. Scott has earned recognition throughout the employee benefits legal community. She has been named a Northern California Super Lawyer in Employee Benefits/ERISA each year since 2019 and was recognized among Northern California’s Top Women Attorneys from 2022 through 2024. Beyond her litigation work, Scott has held leadership positions with several professional organizations. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Employee Benefits Committee of the National Employment Lawyers Association and previously chaired the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. She has also contributed to leading industry publications, including Employee Benefits Law and ERISA Litigation. Scott earned her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Kantor & Kantor, she was a partner at a plaintiff-side employee benefits and employment law firm. Earlier in her legal career, she served as a judicial extern for U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer and worked with both the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Legal Aid at Work. Outside her legal practice, Scott serves as chair of the board of Environmental Traveling Companions, a San Francisco nonprofit that provides outdoor recreation opportunities for people with disabilities and youth from underserved communities. She has also volunteered as a supervising attorney at Legal Aid at Work’s Workers’ Rights Clinic. “I am thrilled to join Kantor & Kantor’s experienced and esteemed team of employee benefits lawyers,” Scott said. “For almost 20 years I have helped employees and retirees protect their hard-earned pension, life insurance, severance and other benefits, and challenge related inequities and misrepresentations they have experienced. I look forward to continuing to represent clients in employee benefit matters with a law firm I highly respect and admire.” Founded more than 30 years ago, Kantor & Kantor focuses exclusively on representing employees, retirees, and their families in disputes involving denied or underpaid employee benefits and insurance claims. With offices in California, Washington, and Oregon, the firm has built a national practice handling matters involving long-term disability, life insurance, long-term care, and pension benefits under ERISA and related laws. |
