Excerpt: Over the past decade, a cottage industry has sprung up to provide investment advice to the 36 million employees who have $1.7 trillion stashed in 401(k)s. Companies like Financial Engines, Invesmart and Mpower have found this to be a nice, protected niche. Federal law effectively bars the big mutual fund and insurance companies that administer those 401(k) accounts from giving employees investment advice themselves. [The Boehner investment advice] bill that would lower that bar.
