San Diego City Attorney Aguirre Calls for End to Retroactive Pension Hikes for City Employees

Excerpt: City Attorney Michael Aguirre called Monday for a rollback of retroactive increases in pension benefits as part of his plan to reduce the $1.17 billion deficit in San Diego's employee pension system. The City Council increased pension benefits in 1996, 2000 and 2002 and made the boosts retroactive for employees. But workers did not have to contribute additional funds to make up the difference from past years, Aguirre wrote in a memorandum to the council.
