[T]he Great Recession, the ACA, and the patent cliff are all influential factors in 2011 and 2012 spending trends. Of particular note, [the authors] find a significant increase in the use of preventive services in 2011 and 2012, which corresponds to the timing of the ACA's preventive services provision that health plans cover preventive services without cost sharing."
