Investors Cautious About E-Health Sector, Say Analysts
Excerpt: "The e-health sector encompasses insurance claim processing, eligibility checks, online supply purchasing, appointment scheduling, prescription writing, personalized content, digital medical records and the ordering of laboratory tests. Eventually, many of these applications will be run by hand-held computer or a wireless device.... While there are dozens of companies that process insurance claims electronically, for instance, only a handful of these use the Internet." (Reuters via Excite! News)
7th Circuit Court of Appeals Sides With Patient in Case Against HMO
Excerpt: "The U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago last week ruled Rush-Prudential HMO had to abide by and pay for the recommendations of an independent physician. The Winfield woman consulted the outside physician after the Chicago-based HMO and the woman's primary-care physician disagreed on whether a treatment was 'medically necessary.' The case only applied to so called "insured" HMOs, in which the HMO covers the cost of claims, and not to self-insured employers." (Chicago Tribune)
