Nowhere is the impact of this law more complicated (and less clear) than it is with respect to multiemployer plans everything from the application of grandfathering and effective dates of various mandates to the elimination of waiting periods. This webcast will focus specifically on the effect of health care reform on multiemployer plans, providing up-to-the-minute updates and clarifications, along with a practical discussion of what the road ahead looks like.

[Guidance Overview]
Automatic Enrollment for Employees of Large Employers Under Health Reform
Employers with more than 200 full-time employees who offer health insurance plans must automatically enroll new employees.

High-Risk Pools to Extend Coverage to Uninsured with Pre-Existing Conditions
Excerpt: "Starting July 1, temporary high-risk health insurance pools will help provide coverage to certain uninsured individuals with pre-existing conditions until state-based exchanges get underway in 2014. Under the health care reform law, states can elect to operate their own high-risk pools using federal funds or let the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) handle the program."

More Employers Institute Waiting Period of at Least Seven Days Before Short-Term Disability Coverage Is Effective
Excerpt: "The latest BLR Employee Fringe Benefit Survey found that 77 % of respondents report their organization requires a waiting period of at least seven days up from 65% in late 2006. Generally, the BLR poll found, seventy-seven percent said their companies offer short-term disability, and 82% offer long-term disability."

Employers Offer Decision Support and Incentives to Encourage Consumer-Driven Health Plan Use, According to Survey
Excerpt: "The survey found about half of small and mid-sized organizations and close to two-thirds of large organizations have adopted at least one CDHP or high-deductible health plans (HDHP). More than three-quarters (76%) of large employers (>5,000 employees) offer decision support tools to CDHP participants, and another 3% plan to do so within the next 12 months."

Millions of Small Businesses Could Be Eligible for Health Care Tax Credits
Excerpt: "[The Internal Revenue Service] issued a series of rules clarifying eligibility for the credit, which is available to businesses with fewer than 25 employees and paying an average salary of less than $50,000 a year. The value of the credit phases out as the number of workers and their salaries rise, with the full 35 percent credit available only to businesses with fewer than 10 full-time workers paying an average salary of less than $25,000."

[Opinion]
Employer Responsibility in Health Reform
Excerpt: "The employer responsibility requirement is designed to strengthen the system of employer-sponsored insurance, which is the primary source of health coverage for nonelderly Americans. It encourages firms that now offer health insurance to continue doing so, and it encourages firms that do not offer coverage to start. Covering as many people as possible through employer-sponsored insurance will hold down the cost of health reform to taxpayers."
