Press Release

Employee Benefits Attorney Kimberly Steefel Joins Ballard Spahr in NYC Office

Issued by Ballard Spahr LLP

Dec. 1, 2021

Ballard Spahr is adding depth to its employee benefits and compensation practice at a crucial time for employers, bringing experienced attorney Kimberly Steefel to the firm’s New York office, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced.

Ms. Steefel joins the firm as of counsel in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group. With nearly 15 years of experience, she advises employers and their in-house counsel on employee benefits, executive compensation, ERISA, and related tax and securities compliance and disclosure. She provides counsel on all aspects of qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and other benefit and compensation matters, as well as labor and employment matters.

“The pandemic has caused seismic shifts in how employees work and what they seek in terms of employee benefits, and compensation issues also loom large in the current employment climate,” said Brian M. Pinheiro, practice leader of Ballard Spahr’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group. “Kim has the experience and skill to help employers navigate the unprecedented demands of this unique and challenging period. She’s an outstanding lawyer and will be a great resource for our clients.”

Ms. Steefel negotiates and drafts employment agreements, severance programs, noncompetition and nondisclosure agreements, and other employment-related agreements and arrangements. Her experience includes advising employers on the employee benefits and executive compensation aspects of mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions, as well as finance.

“Now more than ever, employers need legal advisers who think strategically and have the depth of experience to help companies design and maintain benefit and compensation programs that advance their business goals,” Ms. Steefel said. “I’m excited to join Ballard’s team, which is known for excellent legal work, strategic guidance, and strong client relationships.”
