Consumer Groups and Others to Launch Retirement-Security-for-All Call for Action

Issued by Pension Rights Center

Feb. 16, 2022

Tomorrow, February 17th, the consumer advocacy organization the Pension Rights Center and other like-minded groups will be celebrating PRC’s 46th anniversary. They will also be celebrating the birthday of the Center’s late founder, Karen Ferguson, who died in late December.

On this special day, PRC will be joined by Social Security Works and many other organizations and colleagues in organizing a call for action — including a Twitter storm from 2-3 pm, blog posts and Congressional statements — that will honor Karen’s legacy and focus public attention on the need for an improved retirement income system and expanded Social Security.

When Karen opened PRC’s doors to the nation on February 17, 1976, she directed the Center to work for strong retirement-plan-consumer-protections and to safeguard the rights of working Americans. She pushed-hard to ensure that people received the pension benefits they were promised and sought to create a nationwide network to educate workers about their pension rights and assist them in securing the benefits they earned.

Under Karen’s leadership, the Pension Rights Center made significant advances toward these goals by providing training and technical support to, thus far, a 31-state network of pension counseling projects that help older persons get help with their pension problems and advocating for and shaping laws to help expand protections for older workers and retirees and widowed and divorced spouses.

“The Pension Rights Center is working hard to accomplish its vision of retirement-security-for-all. We are using February 17th, the Center’s 46th anniversary, to celebrate Karen Ferguson’s vision and to focus national attention on the need for an improved retirement income system,” said PRC’s Executive Director Karen Friedman.
