Press Release

Karen Ferguson to Receive Honor from International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans

Issued by Pension Rights Center

May 23, 2022

The Pension Rights Center is thrilled to announce that the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans will be giving its 2022 Public Service Award, posthumously, to Karen Ferguson, the Center’s beloved founder and former president, who died in December at age 80.

The award will honor Karen for her lifetime of advocacy to protect and promote retirement security, the International Foundation said. It will be presented on the morning of May 24, during the International Foundation’s Washington Legislative Update conference held at the Hilton Washington D.C. National Mall—The Wharf. It will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the future of retirement plan policy, featuring PRC Executive Director Karen Friedman, American Benefits Council (ABC) President James A. Klein and Lynn D. Dudley, ABC’s senior vice president, global retirement and compensation policy.

Kevin E. Tighe, the International Foundation’s President and Chair of the Board, will present the award to Karen Ferguson’s son, American University Law Professor Andrew Ferguson.

Karen created the Pension Rights Center in 1976, making it a stalwart consumer organization dedicated solely to protecting and promoting the retirement income security of American workers, retirees and their families.

More information about the discussion on the future of retirement plan policy and the presentation of the public service award, which recognizes individuals with outstanding contributions to and concerns for the benefit of others through support and advancement of employee benefit programs, can be found on the Foundation’s website.
