Hirschler Expands Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Team with the Addition of Partner Robert Saffelle in Richmond

Issued by Hirschler

June 14, 2022

Hirschler is pleased to announce the addition of Robert N. Saffelle, an experienced employee benefits and executive compensation partner, to the firm’s Richmond office. Saffelle is the fifth lateral attorney to join Hirschler in 2022, highlighting the firm’s continued focus on growth and recruiting exceptional talent.

“Rob brings a unique and enviable skill set in the highly specialized area of employee benefits and executive compensation,” said Andrew M. Lohmann, executive vice president of Hirschler. “Adding talent of Rob’s caliber further enhances our ability to serve clients with complex business and legal challenges.”

Saffelle’s practice includes counseling business related to retirement plans and welfare benefit plans, fiduciary law and IRAs. In addition to helping to design, establish and maintain employee benefit programs, he advises businesses in all transactional and compliance aspects of employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). Related to executive compensation plans, Saffelle assists clients with nonqualified deferred compensation plans, supplemental executive retirement plans (SERPs), equity-based compensation and stock option plans incentive plans. He also represents businesses in the context of mergers and acquisitions, including issues related to fiduciary obligations and compliance under ERISA, IRA plans and qualified plan distributions, as well as beneficiary designation issues and voluntary correction programs with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Saffelle is an active member with the Central Virginia Employee Benefits Council, and he has been listed among The Best Lawyers in America each year since 2013 in the Employee Benefits (ERISA) Law category. Prior to joining Hirschler, Saffelle was a partner with a Virginia-based law firm.

He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his law degree from the New England School of Law and an LL.M. from the Boston University School of Law.
