Press Release

Worldwide Employee Benefits Network, a Preeminent Member Network of Employee Benefits and Retirement Professionals, Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of ERISA

Issued by Worldwide Employee Benefits Network [WEB]

July 30, 2024

Dallas, TX -- Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB) continues to celebrate the monumental 50th anniversary of ERISA. From its enactment in 1974 to the recent key provisions of SECURE 2.0 signed into law in 2022, employee benefits law has been on a transformative journey. In acknowledgment of this special occasion, the Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB) is sponsoring a national webinar, “Retirement Saving, Pensions and ERISA at 50: Where Do We Go From Here?” This complimentary program promises to be insightful and visionary.

“WEB is pleased to be hosting this webinar for employee benefits and pension professionals working in employee benefits and retirement savings,” said Stephanie Katz, WEB Board of Directors President. Katz elaborated further: “Since its inception in 1982, WEB has dedicated itself as an organization to provide educational experiences designed to help our members keep up with ERISA developments and apply them in their careers.”

Although the webinar will be live cast on September 18 at 3-4:30 ET, those in the New York City metropolitan area are invited to attend in person at LexisNexis, 230 Park Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY. The program offers participants 1.5 hours of NY CLE credit in Professional Practice. Additionally, WEB is approved to offer HRCI HR general credit and SHRM credit.

The featured speaker, J. Mark Iwry, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution, Visiting Fellow at the Wharton School and formerly Senior Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury for National Retirement & Health Policy, will do a deep dive into ERISA and share his vision and thoughts on the future of ERISA. He will also answer questions from the in-person audience members.

WEB National Board member and a National Co-chair of Communications Carol Buckmann will moderate the webinar. Buckmann is Partner and Co-Founder, Cohen & Buckmann, P.C., who has been writing and speaking about ERISA since its early days. “I am thrilled to be moderating this event, “ said Carol Buckmann. “It is important to look forward and discuss how future ERISA developments could impact the employee benefits field.”

Said Stephanie Katz, “WEB and our members are excited and looking forward to the upcoming webinar. We have always strived to be the single source of benefits information for employee benefits and pension professionals.”
