Abbott Admitted to American College of Employee Benefits Counsel

Issued by Vorys

Sept. 16, 2024

Vorys is pleased to announce that Jacquelyn Abbott, of counsel in the firm’s Houston office, has been inducted into the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel (ACBEC).  ACBEC is a not-for-profit association of attorneys who represent the full spectrum of employee benefits law and clients, including employers, plans, plan participants and relevant government agencies.

To qualify for membership, an attorney must have at least 20 years of experience in the practice of employee benefits law.  According to the ACBEC, attorneys are selected for fellowship based on “careful judgment by prominent employee benefits practitioners that [fellows] meet demanding criteria, emphasizing both excellence in the quality of practice and serious contributions to the public’s understanding and appreciation of employee benefits law.”

Abbott’s practice focuses on employee benefits and related federal compensation tax matters, advising on labor negotiations, pension and fringe benefit plan mergers and acquisitions.  She also provides legal advice to human resource and corporate financial services leaders on employee benefits and employment tax laws including MHPAEA, CAA, ERISA, ADEA, ADA, GINA, FMLA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA and other applicable federal laws.  Prior to joining Vorys, she served as the supervising tax counsel for the ExxonMobil Corporation, and in-house counsel for the Lincoln National Corporation and Lincoln National Life Insurance Company.

Abbott has previously served as chair of the ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC) health policy committee (2008-2012), as well as the co-chair for American Bar Association Section of Taxation, Subcommittee on Welfare Plan and EEOC, FMLA and Leave Issues (2019-2020).

About Vorys: Vorys was established in 1909 with just four attorneys and has grown to nearly 375 attorneys in 10 offices in Ohio, Washington, D.C., Texas, Pennsylvania, California, London and Berlin.  Vorys currently ranks as one of the 200 largest law firms in the United States according to American Lawyer magazine.  Learn more at Vorys.com.
