Press Release Kyla Keck Receives 2024 Harry T. Eidson Founders Award at ASPPA Annual |
Issued by ASPPA [American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries] Oct. 22, 2024 |
In a moment marked by reflection and gratitude, Kyla Keck, a long-time leader in the retirement planning industry, was awarded the 2024 Harry T. Eidson Founders Award at this year’s ASPPA Annual Conference. The award, named after ASPPA’s visionary founder, Harry T. Eidson, recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to ASPPA and the private workplace retirement system. The award’s namesake, Harry T. Eidson, was instrumental in ASPPA’s founding in 1966, driven by his belief in the importance of private retirement systems. Since its inception in 1995, the Eidson Award has honored leaders who reflect Eidson’s commitment to advancing the retirement planning industry and ASPPA’s mission. This year, Kyla Keck joins the esteemed ranks of past recipients. A Leader Through Decades of Change Introducing Keck as the winner, was current ASPPA President Amanda Iverson praised Keck for her “profound and far-reaching” impact, highlighting her career of over 40 years as a senior consultant, mentor, and volunteer. "Kyla’s leadership left a lasting legacy during pivotal moments," said Iverson. "In 2015, as ASPPA president, she guided us through our transition to ARA, and in 2020, as ARA president, she steered us through the challenges of the pandemic." Throughout her career, Keck has been an advocate for technical excellence and professional growth, serving in leadership roles across various ASPPA committees and mentoring many within the industry. Her expertise, especially in navigating complex compliance issues and IRS corrections, has earned her a well-deserved reputation as a leader. A Humble Acceptance Speech Taking the stage to accept the award, Keck began with characteristic modesty: “I can’t remember being speechless, but when Shannon [Edwards] called me to tell me about the award, I was speechless.” Keck reflected on the support she received from family, colleagues, and mentors throughout her journey. She acknowledged the personal sacrifices required by leadership and expressed heartfelt gratitude to her family, who were present to celebrate the honor with her. “The hours spent traveling for ASPPA and ARA meant time and energy taken from other areas of my life,” Keck shared. “I thank my family for their graciousness and generosity in allowing me these opportunities.” Keck emphasized the importance of community within ASPPA, calling it a “tribe” that understands the nuances of retirement planning and provides support through shared experiences. “It’s coming to ASPPA Annual after the grueling October 15 deadline and finding friends in the hotel lobby—being with my tribe,” she said with a smile. Honoring a Legacy of Service Keck paid tribute to mentors and friends who shaped her career, including Brian Graff, who Keck said taught her the importance of resilience and adaptability in leadership: “He showed me how to run into a brick wall, look around, rethink things, and try again.” She also highlighted the evolving role of ASPPA and the ARA in fostering inclusivity within the retirement industry. “Our organization has grown stronger and more inclusive, welcoming a broader retirement community while staying true to ASPPA’s mission.” In closing, Keck thanked ASPPA for enriching her life and career through a community of dedicated professionals: “Thank you for making my life so much richer with your dedication and passion. I am thrilled to see ASPPA continue to grow stronger, with leaders ready to guide it into the future.” A Celebrated Career and Bright Future Kyla Keck’s acceptance of the 2024 Harry T. Eidson Founders Award was a fitting tribute to her lifelong dedication to the retirement planning industry. Her leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise have left an indelible mark on ASPPA and the broader retirement community. “Every great road trip has unforgettable moments,” said Iverson. “This award is one of those memorable milestones in Kyla’s incredible journey.” Keck’s story stands as a reminder of the power of leadership, resilience, and community in advancing the retirement planning profession—a fitting legacy for an award inspired by Harry T. Eidson himself. |
