Press Release

American Retirement Association Hires Retirement Policy Veteran Josh Oppenheimer

Issued by American Retirement Association [ARA]

Jan. 21, 2025

Arlington, Va. -- The American Retirement Association (ARA) announced the appointment of Josh Oppenheimer as Senior Director of Federal Legislative Affairs, effective January 21, 2025.

This strategic addition to the Government Affairs team reinforces ARA's commitment to advancing retirement security policy at the federal level.

Oppenheimer brings extensive public and private sector experience to his new role, having served in key positions at the U.S. Department of Labor and Capitol Hill.

His background in federal retirement policy and private law practice provides him with a comprehensive understanding of the legislative process and the complex regulatory framework governing retirement plans.

"Josh's deep expertise in retirement policy and his proven track record in both government service and private practice make him an invaluable addition to our Government Affairs team," American Retirement Association Chief Government Affairs Officer Will Hansen said. "His unique perspective and experience will strengthen our advocacy efforts as we work to enhance retirement security for all Americans."

As Senior Director of Federal Legislative Affairs, Oppenheimer will lead key initiatives in ARA's federal legislative strategy, working closely with Congressional offices and regulatory agencies to advance policies that promote retirement security and protect the interests of retirement plan sponsors, participants, and service providers.

Oppenheimer was previously the Deputy Oversight Counsel and Senior Legislative Officer, Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs | Senior Policy Advisor, Employee Benefits Security Administration. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
