Acrisure Announces Two Acquisitions to Enhance Its Pension and Employee Benefits Servicing Capabilities

Issued by Acrisure LLC

Mar. 10, 2025

Pittsburgh-based Mockenhaupt Benefits Group and Philadelphia-area NewBridge Partners have joined the Company

Wayne, PA – Acrisure announced the acquisition of Mockenhaupt Benefits Group, a Pittsburgh-based actuarial firm that provides services to local government pension plans. Through this partnership, Acrisure will enhance its pension servicing capabilities to better support municipalities across Pennsylvania.

Founded nearly a century ago in 1940, Mockenhaupt Benefits Group is deeply rooted in the government sector and provides retirement plan design and administration to Pennsylvania public employee benefits while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. The firm began servicing local government pension plans in 1955.

The Acrisure pension and actuarial team is based in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh and excels in providing actuarial work for Pennsylvania municipalities, including dozens of plans under Act 205, The Distressed Municipal Pension Recovery Tax Act, which grants allowance to certain municipalities to increase their earned income tax rates to fund their municipal pension liabilities. The Mockenhaupt firm has a client base of nearly 200 municipalities with roughly 400 pension and retiree medical plans and through the acquisition, Acrisure is now ranked second in Pennsylvania for the number of pension plans serviced.

“We’ve seen tremendous development within Acrisure’s pension and actuarial team,” said Brad Rigby, Pension and Actuarial Practice Leader for the company’s East Division. “This acquisition marks the beginning of our next chapter, and we’re excited to work alongside an established and reputable team. Together we'll deliver unmatched services to clients across the region.”

In addition to welcoming the Mockenhaupt team, Acrisure recently acquired NewBridge Partners led by Akio Bley, whose team brings over 20 years of experience working with unions and other larger groups in the Philadelphia area. “Our Employee Benefits team in Eastern Pennsylvania is poised to provide even greater insights into potential opportunities for our teams within our area,” said Geoff Goldwater, Vice President, Growth for the East Division.

“Bringing in the Mockenhaupt and NewBridge teams is a significant upgrade to our pension and actuarial and employee benefits teams and will ultimately provide greater resources to our clients,” Goldwater added. “These moves put us in a great position to stay ahead of the growing demand for tailored solutions as companies work to navigate evolving retirement plan and employee benefits needs.”

Acrisure has an especially strong presence in Pennsylvania, which is underscored by their partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose home games have been played at Acrisure Stadium since 2022. Acrisure’s presence in the region has also acted as a catalyst for community engagement, which is exemplified by the firm’s $7.5 million donation to the UPMC Children’s Hospital Foundation in 2023.
