Future-Proofing Your Data Security: The Berwyn Group Introduces Quantum-Resistant File Transfers

Issued by Berwyn Group

June 3, 2025

At The Berwyn Group, we handle some of your most sensitive information – birth dates and personal identifiers that retain their value and sensitivity for decades. As custodians of this data, we constantly evaluate emerging threats to your privacy and security.

One such threat has quietly emerged on the horizon: the “harvest now, decrypt later” strategy employed by sophisticated adversaries. This approach involves collecting encrypted data today with the intent to decrypt it once quantum computing technology matures, potentially exposing sensitive information years after it was transmitted and presumed secure.

What This Means for Your Data

The sensitive personal information we process isn’t just temporarily valuable – it’s permanent. Consider:

  • Birth dates and identity information never expire
  • Personal records maintain their sensitivity for decades

When you transmit this information to us, you expect it to remain confidential not just today, but for years to come. Traditional encryption methods, while secure against current technologies, may become vulnerable to future quantum computers specifically designed to break today’s cryptographic protections.

Introducing Quantum-Resistant Security

To address this emerging risk, The Berwyn Group has enhanced SFTP servers with next-generation cryptographic protection. We’ve implemented the latest National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)- approved quantum-resistant encryption technology, leveraging advanced lattice-based cryptography that’s designed to withstand attacks from both classical and quantum computers.

These advanced security algorithms provide an additional layer of protection against future threats while maintaining full compatibility with existing systems.

A Note on Web Uploads and Other File Transfer Methods

Web Platform Uploads: Secure Today and Tomorrow

If you’re using our web platform to upload sensitive files rather than SFTP, rest assured that your data remains well-protected.

Your HTTPS connections are secured using TLS (Transport Layer Security) versions that cryptography experts consider quantum-resistant. This robust encryption continues to provide strong protection for your data in transit.

While files are transferred, we protect them with layers of encryption including AES and PGP encryption keys, which security experts still consider highly secure against both conventional and near-term quantum computing threats.

Our Forward-Looking Approach

The Berwyn Group is actively monitoring developments in post-quantum cryptography for web services. As NIST finalizes its recommendations for quantum-safe TLS protocols, we’re prepared to implement these enhancements across our web platform.

The good news: you don’t need to make any changes to your current web upload processes. Our security team continuously evaluates emerging standards and will seamlessly integrate enhanced protections as they become available.

Multi-Layered Data Protection

While our SFTP quantum-resistant option provides additional protection for customers with specific long-term security requirements, our standard web upload methods continue to meet current security best practices and provide strong protection for your sensitive information.

Regardless of how you choose to transfer data to The Berwyn Group, all sensitive database records are stored in an isolated, encrypted datastore with unique per-customer encryption keys, designed to ensure that your information remains protected by multiple layers of security throughout its lifecycle in our systems.

Our Commitment to Security

At The Berwyn Group, we recognize that the security landscape is constantly evolving. By implementing post-quantum cryptography today, we’re future proofing your data against tomorrow’s threats before they emerge. This proactive approach reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting your sensitive information – not just against current threats, but against the challenges of tomorrow.

This enhanced security is entirely opt-in and simple to activate. To leverage quantum security, please reach out to sftphelp@berwyngroup.com.
