BenefitsLink is proud to announce the publication of the 900th question-and-answer posted by author Robert S. Kaufman, a former official with the United States Railroad Retirement Board. No doubt Bob's answers have helped many thousands of rail workers, spouses and former spouses understand their eligibility for benefits under the Railroad Retirement Act, which is a federal program that covers railroad employees in lieu of Social Security.

We're the only site in the 'Benefits' category! Thanks for letting us share this news with you. Excerpt: With that in mind, we considered it fitting to present in this anniversary issue 10 of the best HR Web sites and 10 of the best HR blogs for your browser's Favorites/Bookmarks list.... [I]f it's about benefits, you'll find something about it on BenefitsLink. Just a cruise down its left side navigation/links bar, and you quickly get the idea how they chose the site's name back in 1995.

Excerpt: Yes, there are plenty of worthwhile Web sites and plenty of list-serves that provide news, insight, commentary and information about retirement. But if you search the Web for blogs about retirement you'll find mostly flotsam and jetsam. So we asked a bevy of experts to provide us with their favorite blogs that address issues of concern to those in or near retirement. What did we find? Well, it's not good. Many don't have a list of bookmarked retirement-related blogs.

Browse through the new Rev. Proc. in bite-sized pages rather than printing or scrolling through the 97-page PDF version! Our version's table of contents has links to take you to any particular section. Each cross-reference in the text is now a hypertext link. Plus each defined term in the text is now a hypertext link to the definition set forth in the revenue procedure. Enjoy! (Please don't copy and repost this version elsewhere on the Web.)

If you'd like to tell a colleague about the free daily BenefitsLink Retirement Plans Newsletter or the Health & Welfare Plans Newsletter, the best web page for more information and a sign-up form is https://benefitslink.com/newsletter (which appears if you click the headline of this link). Your web browser will have a 'send link by email' option under its 'File' menu. More subscribers means more advertising revenue, which means more and better free features for you can be added. Thanks very much!

Syntax Enhancements for Standard Searches

  • Quotation marks can be used to require an exact phrase, such as
    "standard of review"
  • When CAPITALIZED, the words AND, OR and NOT are logic operators, which are especially powerful when multiple words (e.g., synonyms) are grouped in parentheses, such as
(vested OR vesting OR lifetime) AND (retiree OR retirement) AND (health OR healthcare) AND (benefits OR coverage)
