Excerpt: The Commonwealth Fund Health Care Opinion Leaders Survey was conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of The Commonwealth Fund, with a broad group of 289 opinion leaders in health policy and innovators in health care delivery and finance. Excerpt: Last week the Commonwealth Fund published a proposal for a 'High-Performance Health Care System' that is ambitious, and admirably honest. Unlike many health care pundits, the lead author, Cathy Schoen, understands our Byzantine health care system from the inside out. As a result, she does not try to paper over the complexities, inefficiencies and inequities of U.S. health care. She acknowledges them as she struggles to make an irrational system rational. The Commonwealth Fund's 90-page report deserves a close reading. But before I begin to analyze it, let me stress that whatever objections I may raise about the Commonwealth proposal only illustrate just how hard it is to devise a plan that will deliver high quality, affordable, sustainable health care to all Americans.

Excerpt: President Bush outlined several strategies to reform the U.S. health care system in his latest State of the Union Address. Recognizing the need to improve the affordability and availability of health care is an important step toward a health care system that works for all Americans. Excerpt: The ... Survey asked a diverse group of experts for their perspective on health care delivery system reform. Survey participants call for fundamental change in the way the U.S. delivery system is organized, with one of nine favoring such reform. Favored policy strategies for reform include strengthening the primary care system, encouraging care coordination, and promoting care management of high-cost patients with complex conditions. Opinion leaders also cite payment reform as an important strategy to enhance primary care physicians' ability to provide coordinated, high-quality care, as well as to help prevent costly hospitalizations.

Syntax Enhancements for Standard Searches

  • Quotation marks can be used to require an exact phrase, such as
    "standard of review"
  • When CAPITALIZED, the words AND, OR and NOT are logic operators, which are especially powerful when multiple words (e.g., synonyms) are grouped in parentheses, such as
(vested OR vesting OR lifetime) AND (retiree OR retirement) AND (health OR healthcare) AND (benefits OR coverage)
