Excerpt: Individual privacy rights and the rights of individuals to control confidential medical information as set out in privacy rules under [HIPAA] essentially were upheld by a federal district court ... [T]he court said that a hospital may be required to turn over patient pharmacy records subject to government subpoena in a federal criminal action, but only after the patients have been given notice of their right to object to disclosure of the information.
