Excerpt: The largest 350 publicly listed companies in the U.K. had a pension funding deficit of £76 billion ($145.6 billion) at the end of 2004, up slightly from £73 billion ($130.3 billion) at the end of 2003, according to research by Mercer Human Resource Consulting in London.
