IRS Issues Final Regulations Relating to Phased Retirement

Excerpt: The IRS on May 22, 2008 issued final regulations on making in-service distributions from defined benefit pension plans.... The final regulations are part of an ongoing effort by the IRS, recently joined by Congress, to facilitate phased-retirement alternatives for workers. Basically, the idea is to permit near-retirees to reduce their hours worked and use partial distributions from their pension plans to make up for their reduced wages.
