Excerpt: Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS) studies and recommends healthcare information standards. To fulfill this responsibility, NCVHS' Subcommittee on Standards and Security held hearings on proposed new versions of the HIPAA transaction standards on July 30 and 31, 2007. The purpose of this letter is to summarize those hearings and make recommendations.
