Time Off to Vote on Election Day
Jackson Lewis P.C.
[Guidance Overview] Oct. 17, 2008
Excerpt: While some states have no applicable requirements, the majority of states obligate employers to provide employees time off to vote in certain situations and impose civil and/or criminal penalties for non-compliance. Some of these jurisdictions even require such time to be paid for non-exempt employees. Finally, some jurisdictions also obligate employers to provide employees time off to act as election officials.
