  1. What I meant is that everyone is replaceable. I do not check emails/voice mails when on vacation OR the weekend. Absolutely not. Don't get paid enough as an admin to do that. After 2 weeks off the most emails I've ever had is 100 and lots of those were deleted.
  2. Also, TPAs are piling on more work and not offering more benefits. I've worked for various TPAs for the last 30 years. Raises were far and few between while piling on more work and requiring designations, which actually mean nothing except that you know how to study for a test! In today's environment telecommuting should be on the table definitely and also work/life balance. No one should be answering emails on vacation (my biggest pet peeve!!! and also you aren't that important) or during the weekend (again, you're not that important), or working over 40 hours a week. If that's happening then your work load is too much. There is also the ageism factor. My husband who does have credentials decided to retire because he'd interviewed for many TPA positions just to be turned down in favor of a twenty-something.
  3. Well it is New York so . . .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZMsv7ojbvA
  4. My so early? The longer you wait the more SS you get. Wait till 70, and you will get the max. Doesn't make sense to retire that early.
  5. I am pretty sure that if you don't speak a word of English it's going to be very hard to get hired, say for instance, at a TPA, so yeah, it kind of is a requirement to work here. As my husband says, This is America, Jack from Coming to America...
  6. Why would this shock you? If you can't speak English how are you even working?? You might as well have translations in every language, lol!
  7. You can only contribute 19,500 and catch up, the limit is the same no matter how many companies you work for. To answer your question, I have not herd that it was postponed to May. But maybe someone else will chime in.
  8. I think it's time for plan documents to update the NRA to something more realistic....such as 66 1/2, to be more in line with social security retirement ages.
  9. My reply was just that the owner is the trustee. But yes, the owner of the policy was the plan. The check was payable to the trustee. The policy was part of the plan assets.
  10. Yes, the owner is the trustee -- he is the only person. Thank you!
  11. I'm not involved with his rollover, he just asked me advice. The life insurance proceeds were payable to him and he has a check from his insurance company. My question was can he rollover the proceeds to an IRA along with his other assets and from research I thought the answer was no. If it is no, then what does he do with it?
  12. I have a one person plan (401k/PS) terminating 20201231 with life insurance. He has assets at 2 other investment houses. He cashed in his life insurance policy ($42,000) and now wants to roll it into the IRA along with the assets from the other investment houses. I don't think you can do that, correct? What are his options now as far as the life insurance cash? He doesn't want a tax liability. Fidelity (one of his investment houses) told him to send them a check and mark it 60 day rollover along with a 1099R ...
  13. Yes, everyone in our office (except management) is paid hourly. No overtime. But really if you're spending more than 40 hours a week to get your work done, that means you have too many plans to administer.
  14. Yes, all employees (other than management) are paid hourly. No one works overtime.
  15. Interesting! None of our admins are salaried, no matter how many designations one has, or how experienced you are.
  16. We do have a huge support staff, but still I would not want 100 plus plans. And we don't do overtime here. 8 hours a day is it!
  17. The TPA I am with tries to keep us at 45 plans, simple or not. Stress is minimal. More plans than that is ridiculous and sometimes impossible. My husband was an admin and got fired more than once from a TPA that had him at 100 plus plans -- impossible. I am near retirement and will stick it out but I encourage you to find something that makes you happy. TPAs are piling more work on admins and it's not worth it. Good luck!!
  18. I think your issue is beyond the scope of this board. Sounds like you need a competent divorce attorney and you may have to file for bankruptcy as well and start over. Good luck!
  19. All our records are online - no paper files at all.
  20. ? I would never give clients my cell phone. Really? You need to have boundaries between work and personal life. I like what the owner of a previous TPA I worked in told us once, "It's just a job. You're not performing brain surgery." Believe me, nothing they call you about on your cell phone will matter in 5 years.
  21. Yep, all! The TPA I work for is in NJ with clients in Philly and NYC. We've had several participants take advantage of the distributions.
  22. I think that's because you are in New England, a wealthy area. All our clients opted to add CRD options and I see no issue with that.
  23. I have a large plan and the auditor caught the fact that a participant who died 2 months after he was terminated was paid out at 100%. Should have been paid out 40%. The 2 beneficiaries have already received their money. Any options other than asking for the non-vested portion back from the beneficiaries, which likely will not work at all?
