We looked at this pretty carefully for the annual asap on recurring deadlines and concluded that the deadline is the 15th, period.

The ERISA Outline Book covers the topic. No, the March 15 quasi-deadline is not the type of deadline that is automatically extended to the next Monday.

I agree on "no". March 15th is not referenced. The rule is with 2-1/2 months after the plan year ends. Had the deadline explicitly stated "March 15th), then you would have position that since this date falls on a Saturday you would have until the next business day. Even in Form 5500s, 'then end of the 7th month following the month in which the plan year ends'; you don't get an extension (at least I don't think you do :) ).

Good Luck!

ETK - this is perhaps getting off-topic a bit, but for tax and other information returns, you would get to file on the first business day following the filing due date if on a weekend or national holiday. Don't have a city right now, but it may be in the 5500 instructions. I'll have to look later.

For 2015, we'll have to give back the excess contributions by 3/13. We are getting shorted by 2 days for the calendar year testing season ! I wish they all could be EACAs...maybe not.

But for 2016, there's an extra day in February, so we get one back...

And I just KNOW everyone had the refunds done at the custodian by the 13th this year, so all the check dates were on or before 3/14!
