Tom Poje Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 the default was changed to something like automatically send me notifications to everything I look at or something like that. took me awhile to find it, but if you click on your name (upper right corner), select account settings on the right side there is Other settings notifications (and you can turn the thing off) MoJo 1
GMK Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Thanks, Tom. I have been in that box and changed those settings. What I'm talking about is the list of notifications that is displayed when you click on the Bell symbol at the top of the page, to the left of the envelope symbol, to the left of my "silhouette," to the left of my ID. I'd like to be able to delete items from the list after I check them out.
shERPA Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 ...... see more updated threads on a page. Followed other tips since the update to get back a reasonable view of new content, then bookmarked it, but it sure spreads out on the page compared to the old view. Mike Preston 1 I carry stuff uphill for others who get all the glory.
Mike Preston Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 ... change what displays when reading a thread so that there is an immovable frame at the top which displays the thread title. Poor man's solution: press Alt-D and the address bar magically changes from "benefitslink.com/boards/index.php" to "http://benefitslink.com/boards/index.php?/topic/xxxxxxxxxx" where xxxxxxxxxxxx is the thread name.
GMK Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 ... be able to delete items from the list that is displayed when I click the "Bell" symbol, after I have finished checking them out. (Different from the issue to which Mr. Poje responded.)

I think Dave's been tinkering, because I think the system was set to display a thread once and only once at some point. I don't remember when it changed, but maybe Dave can set it back? EDIT: It wasn't Dave, it was me! Bill, see what your "Show me" setting is. If it is "Content items, comments, and reviews" change it to "Content items only". Bill Presson 1

If it is "Content items, comments, and reviews" change it to "Content items only". Perfect (or very close to it). I've saved "Unread Content Threads" as an activity stream. So it's not the default Unread Content at the top of the page, but I can get to it quickly. Now I need to figure out how to delete the other "Unread Content" items that are saved in the activity stream options since I was playing with it. William C. BG5150 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 ^ Go the the mail fora screen and mark all of them "read" (just click on any dark blue circles to the left of the forum name. It'll clear everything out, but after that you should only see the new stuff with the current setting. Just a guess. QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
BG5150 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 However, is there any way I can get the "Content items only" to stay checked after I leave the page? Each time I go somewhere else and come back, it resets to "Content items, comments, and reviews" QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.

If you hover over Activity, one of the options is My Activity Stream. There are defaults and then views that you can create. As I've played with the options, and saved them, they are added to the custom streams section. Now I have the one I want and need to delete the custom streams that haven't worked out. William C. Bird Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Sigh. This is probably answered already but I'm too lazy to look hard. How do I, basically, get this to look like it used to? Unread posts shows just the topic, not every f***ing reply separately. When I come back the next time, it shows me just activity from the last time I was on. I'm "clearing" unread content but it keeps coming back like a bad penny. I do NOT like change... Ed Snyder
BG5150 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Bird, go to "My Activity Streams," choose to make a new one. Call it Bird's Stream or whatever you want. Choose "Show me Content Items Only" and "Content I haven't read" and I'll leave it up to you whether it takes you to the beginning of the thread or to the first unread post. And I'll leave it up to you haw the rest of your preferences are chosen. Save the stream. It will automatically shift to it. Then on the top of the messages, you'll see your stream name and 3 icons next to it. Click the third one and your newly-created stream will be the default. That should be it. You can create several streams to see which set of parameters work best for you. You cannot edit a stream from what I can see, so you have to create alternates. IF you don't like one, activate it and click the second icon which will delete it. In all, to get the first one done, it'll take maybe a minute. I think the messages view will stay the same until the topic is marked 'read.' What I do from time to time is go to the Forums list page and click the dark blue circles next to the rooms I'm not interested in at the moment. That will mark the entire forum read and clear out the unread message list. You'll now only see new messages going forward. I hope that helps. My 2 cents Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 What I miss is being able to just see topics that have received posts since the last time I was here. An undifferentiated list of unread posts makes it harder to keep up with the newest posts (and I consider it a disadvantage that when I do look at a post from the list of unread posts, it disappears when I go back to the list and I can't even tell what I am returning from). I liked the old feature that showed threads that have since been updated in bold and those whose latest post was read by me as unbolded. Is there a setting that will show things like that? Bird Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 BG, thanks for taking the time to respond. I am trying that, so far it looks more like what I want. Software updates really irk me... Ed Snyder

BG5150 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 And to further shorten the list, at least visually, click the Condensed link in the upper right. It shows only thread titles. Expanded shows titles and the first two lines of the response. Bill Presson 1 QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
