Silver Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Hi I have a client who is located in Rhode Island, they are subject to the mandatory State Disability Insurance (SDI). My question: Is SDI included in Box 5 ( Medicare wages and tips) of the W-2 or is it excluded from the amount. The RI-SDI is separately listed on the Form W-2 in Box 14, leaving me with this question when calculating Gross Compensation for the 401(k) Plan. Any help is appreciated. -Silver QKA
BG5150 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Use the payroll report. I only use the W2 to double check the deferrals and sometimes SSNs. QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
Silver Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Love the idea however, I am not convinced that the in-house payroll reports are correct. So i am left with W-2's. QKA
BG5150 Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 The payroll system directly generates the W2, I would think. Therefore, if the payroll report is incorrect, chances are your W2's aren't right either... QKA, QPA, CPC, ERPATwo wrongs don't make a right, but three rights make a left.
Silver Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Makes sense and I appreciate the feedback however I am still looking for the answer below. QKA
XTitan Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I've been a CA resident who has SDI as well. Let me answer this way. If I had $100 of wages and $1 deducted for SDI, Box 5 would show $100. Does that help? - There are two types of people in the world: those who can extrapolate from incomplete data sets...
Silver Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Thank you, that was in fact very helpful. This leads me to believe that the SDI is included in Box 5. QKA
CuseFan Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I pay NYS SDI from my wages and it is not pre-tax in any fashion, except it could be deducted as a SALT on my Federal tax return, before tax reform that is!
