Supersunny Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 I cashed out a 401k in February 2020 . I lost my job in March. Will I need to pay the penalty for withdrawing?
C. B. Zeller Posted January 1, 2021 Posted January 1, 2021 If you are over age 59-1/2, the 10% penalty for early withdrawal does not apply. If you meet the definition of a qualified individual under the CARES Act, you can waive the 10% penalty tax (if applicable), plus you can spread the income over 3 years for federal income tax purposes of up to $100,000 of your distribution.
