We are a small TPA firm that services pooled plans. Now that Relius is no longer sponsoring 1099 software, was wondering if anybody had any recommendations.

For 2020, we have between 25-50 1099-R. We also need to print the 945's and 1096's.

We've been using FT William for years and it's worked well for us. It integrates with their distribution tracking system if you use that as well.

Free advice is worth what you paid for it. I'll second FTW.  Software is easy to use.  You can do them one at a time or a batch upload using a csv.  The distribution tracking system is great, and if you use it correctly throughout the year, you just push the data to the 1099 module.  You'll have them all done in a half a day.

Ask them for a demo, Holly is awesome and can answer all your questions.  They also have the best customer service in the business. If someone isnt available when you call, they call back quickly.

All that; I third FTW.

If you have a CPA firm that refers clients to you, this would be a good opportunity to give back.  It also might be a cheaper alternative for the amount of returns needed.

Or you could use a service provider like PenChecks Trust that specializes in distribution processing and can handle the 1099-Rs and 945s for you, as well as a number of other distribution-related services and processes. Full disclosure - I am PenChecks' CCO. Having said that, if you already use FTW I would certainly speak with them as I too think they are a quality provider. The good news is you have some good options available. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
