What Form to use for 2020 SF or EZ

I have a few clients that have a 401 (k) and Safe Harbor Match. The principals defer but the "common-law" do not. So they are participants with zero account balance.  I tried efiling a 5500-SF showing 2 active participants and 1 with an account balance.  FT William rejected the submission and their support group tells me to file an EZ.

I am not comfortable doing that.

Any suggestions and references will be greatly appreciated.

Earlier in the year I was getting a similar message, but with Relius. 

I think it was returning EFAST2 error code, not necessarily something in the software itself.  I would contact FT WIlliam to see what they say.  Their support is very good.  Relius corrected that somehow.  Whether just just eliminated that code from their validation or if EFAST fixed it on their end, I don't know.

Side note:  I see you typed "principals," plural.  And "'common law' do not" also implying plural.

So, why only two actives?  Did people leave?  And you said the principals defer.  Only one acct if both (or more) principals deferred?

I was getting that warning - not actually an error - and it was more of a suggestion (unwanted!) that an EZ might be appropriate.  Their support is superb and I am genuinely surprised - shocked - that an actual person would give that response; I'd guess they didn't understand the circumstances or you misunderstood their response.
