Excerpt: We strongly agree that the proposed rule, in conjunction with other provisions of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, will encourage the adoption of automatic enrollment arrangements. While the Department estimates that annual contributions to 401(k) plans will increase by between $1.9 billion and $3.8 billion in 2005 dollars, our analysis indicates an even higher amount.
