Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives
Dec. 22, 2021
269 pages. "Although the markets for these products differ, the Committee uncovered common practices that cut across the industry. First, drug companies have raised prices with abandon, especially when they succeed in delaying or blocking competition.... Second, companies have manipulated the patent system and marketing exclusivities granted by the [FDA] to extend their monopolies far longer than lawmakers envisioned when they created these systems.... Third, all the companies the Committee investigated have employed anticompetitive strategies to suppress generic competition.... These practices persist because the highly complex U.S. pharmaceutical market creates perverse incentives to raise prices, and unlike in other countries, drug companies can do so without limitation."

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives
Sept. 20, 2013
30 pages. Excerpt: "Although the structure of the Navigator and Assister programs could potentially lead to consumers receiving incomplete and inaccurate information about the law, the main concern for consumers is the heightened risk of identity theft and financial loss from a poorly managed outreach campaign.... In addition to the risks associated with an insufficient training program and the lack of background checks, there are already numerous reports of scam artists posing as Navigators and Assisters to take advantage of people's confusion about ObamaCare .... The failure of the Administration to provide clarity about prohibited marketing and solicitation techniques and to provide consumers with a list of authenticated Navigators and Assisters substantially increases the number of Americans likely to fail prey to fraud and identity theft."

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives
Mar. 18, 2015
Feb. 5, 2014; 100 pages. From the opening statement by Committee Chairman Darrell Issa: "This committee and all committees of the Congress have an opportunity to seize better choices in how we fashion health care opportunities for the American people. Health care insurance companies make money off of the Affordable Care Act, and the profit is theirs to keep.... A key question we will ask today is what will trigger the bailout provisions and how will it take effect. Under ObamaCare's risk corridor program, if an insurance company cannot cover the losses of its less successful plans, the Treasury will use taxpayer funds to cover up 80 percent of the loss."

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives
July 28, 2013
"IRS and Treasury have not been able to provide the Committees with detailed information about the factors considered by IRS and Treasury that expanded the availability of PPACA's tax credits to federal exchanges ... Legal experts at the Congressional Research Service have stated that the IRS rule seems to go against the health law and is 'contradictory to clear congressional intent.' The rule, which adds hundreds of billions of dollars in new and unauthorized federal spending, is currently the subject of two lawsuits challenging its legality. Individuals involved in the legal challenges will be among the hearing witnesses."

Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives
Sept. 5, 2013
"House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations Chairman John Mica, R.-Fla.... announced a hearing [on Wednesday, September 11] to examine a new inspector general report on the Treasury Department's role in a controversial component of the Obama Administration's 'Detroit bailout.'... Despite assurances that Treasury, as well as the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry (Auto Team) was not supposed to be involved in day-to-day decision-making at GM, the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program found in a recent report that the Treasury Department played key roles in decisions at GM, including in the controversial Delphi deal."
