Excerpt: I analyzed the many myths about the Cadillac tax in an earlier post, but I'm coming back to the subject for two reasons. First, commentators continue to misrepresent the effect that the tax will have, and secondly, it seems that as negotiations come down to the wire, media myths are carrying the day. I would like HealthBeat readers to understand the facts. (Let me emphasize that I'm not alone.[)]

"This is the first in a series of posts that will try to dispel the myths and reveal the facts about the reform legislation. What will reform mean for insurers, hospitals, doctors, Medicare patients, seniors who are now on Medicare Advantage, Medicaid patients and state budgets? Who wins and who loses? You may be surprised by some of the answers. The legislation is rich in details that have been ignored. Liberals as well as conservatives are making assumptions that just don't square with the facts. [In this post], I focus on the impact that reform will have on the private insurance industry--and on the industry's customers."

Syntax Enhancements for Standard Searches

  • Quotation marks can be used to require an exact phrase, such as
    "standard of review"
  • When CAPITALIZED, the words AND, OR and NOT are logic operators, which are especially powerful when multiple words (e.g., synonyms) are grouped in parentheses, such as
(vested OR vesting OR lifetime) AND (retiree OR retirement) AND (health OR healthcare) AND (benefits OR coverage)
