Assuming the document doesn't address earnings on true up contributions, then yes, I'd say they only need to contribute the true match amount. As a side note, we try to keep our clients and documents in-sync. In other words, if they want to make match contributions each payroll, then write the document to reflect this so you don't have to calculate true ups each year.

In my limited experience, I've never seen interest calculated on match true up contributions. Its possible that your document addresses this. It would be interesting to hear why your vendors feel the need to include interest.

I'm not a Relius user, so I feel a little out of place, but what if... You create a subreport and insert the subreport into each main report. By doing it this way, you can make all of your formula & formatting changes in the subreport, insert the subreport into your main report and link it. Otherwise, you have to make the same formula & formatting changes in each main report. What a pain! As a side note (and this is where I'll might be out of place), its interesting that you have six separate Crystal files. Could you have one Crystal statement file (say for plans with insurance or one for portrait & one for landscape) and link it to the plan or plans you want to work with? I don't know how Relius works or your firm works (maybe each client has a customized statement, yuck), but I try to keep the number of Crystal files to a minimal.

There's also a parent site to these boards that lists jobs. Not sure if you'll find all the major players here, but its definitely worth your time. http://benefitslink.com/jobs/by_date.shtml

E-mail notification
Fredman replied to R. Butler's topic in Using the Message Boards (a.k.a. Forums)
Go to your control panel Along the left hand side towards the bottom there should be a "Email Settings" link. Then again towards the bottom should be this question: Enable 'Email Notification' by default? Enabling this option will automatically subscribe you to receive email notifications about (1) new messages under any topic you started, or (2) new messages under any topic under which you've posted a message. Double check that setting as it seems to be working for me. -
Software Update For Message Boards
Fredman replied to Dave Baker's topic in Using the Message Boards (a.k.a. Forums)
Speed on my end is very good. At least as good as pre-crash, if not better. I've noticed that if you choose the "tubey" skin, its much slower that the other two. This makes sense since it has more graphics. Overall, I like the new look. My only beef at this point is the spacing. There seems to be alot more dead space (hence more scrolling) than the previous version. I'm going to wear out the wheel in my mouse! Thanks for all the work Dave. One last thing, when are others going to put up a picture of themselves? So far, I've only seen Dave's and myself. I'm taking my down if I don't see more mug shots. -

That looks more like Alabama to me! -
We haven't had any companies stop match, but we have had several (a small percentage overall) clients removing safe harbor contributions because they no longer want to be committed. None of our clients are Fortune 1000.

Did you know that Google can do this?
Fredman replied to Dave Baker's topic in Computers and Other Technology
The easiest way is to make sure that "vB Code" is turned on in the message board in which you want to post (see the "Forum Rules" box at the lower left part of this page; this is controlled by the message board's moderator). Then, when replying to a message, click on the button that's labeled "http://" and it'll ask you for the words you want linked (for example, click here, and the web address. It will then put the necessary code in your message. Otherwise, you can type in the vB Code manually, like this: click here Or, if you just type the URL in your message, the message board software automatically makes the URL into a clickable link to that URL -- such as the http://wherever.com/pagename.html I made up in my example. -
Did you know that Google can do this?
Fredman replied to Dave Baker's topic in Computers and Other Technology
if you want to keep your email address private (which can be a challenge), then i suggest setting up a bogus email account at yahoo or something similar and then use that email address when providing info to google. i have an email account at excite.com that fills up with junk on a weeky basis. i just go in and wipe it out so that i can continue to use to when "signing up" for a websites. when i want to receive email from a site, then i'll use my "real" email addy. for example, i like benefitslink, so i'll use my real email addy, but on the other hand i'm a little suspicious of freeerisa.com so i'll use my fakie. -

i agree with the above and would add that we check for balances up to the day we file the return. for example, someone terms in '01 and takes distribution in march '03=not reported on SSA. in other words, just because they termed in '01 and have a balance at the end of the plan year doesn't mean they get reported.

ASPA has a nice form on their site that will email all of your congressional reps, including GW, in one shot. You can find it here: ASPA's Legislative Action Center

You must be one of the few lucky ones that can afford to save as Bush is proposing. I like to think of it as the "Class Separatation Act of 2004". IMO, most of the small business retirement plans will be history, gonzo and in the toliet if this gets through. This means the rest of us can continue saving at the current rate and we will no longer receive any additional contributions from our employers. I'd also like to know where the lost tax revenue will come from once everyone converts over their taxable accounts to non-taxable accounts. It'll really pad his numbers for the next four years, but what about 20 years from now?

you are right. here is a link to the limits: http://benefitsattorney.com/415.html

MGB, when do you expect reactions from these groups? I've read plenty of newspaper type opinions and now I'm looking forward to some more indepth thoughts on the plan.
-
My understanding is that catch-ups are limited on calender years. This means that if you had contributions in 2002 for your 10/1/01-9/30/02 plan year, those contributions could apply to the 2002 catch-up limit.

401(k) deferrals counting towards the 415 maximum annual addition
Fredman replied to chris's topic in 401(k) Plans
i think you need to play a game of "document sez." if the document sez that you refund deferrals first, then i put my chips with no 402g excess and its not included on the adp test. -
What other option(s) would you propose?
-
right-o pax. i also value my health insurance, 125 & 401k plans and other similar incentives...all put more cash in my pocket. a holiday party might save me some cash because i don't have to pay for the meal, but it also cost me several hours of my time, which is more valuable than a chicken breast and a few drinks.
-
no offense to my co-workers, but i'd pass on the naked pizza party. imo, nothing says thank you like cash...all non-cash incentives, awards, holiday parties, summer gatherings, etc. are crap.
