Christmas Songs (Round 3) abbreviations
Fredman replied to Tom Poje's topic in Humor, Inspiration, Miscellaneous
Actually, I think Tom is pulling a fast one here. He secretly released new ASPPPPPPPA designations. Let's see, #1.... -

Anybody want to talk about the Red Sox?
Fredman replied to Lori Friedman's topic in Humor, Inspiration, Miscellaneous
Story for Red Sox fans... http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/06/news/newsm..._ebay/index.htm Maybe someone else can put up the link to the auction. Ebay is off limits at the machine I'm at right now. -
Discouraging Loans

WOW!!!!!!! Seems to me you are on the right track (limiting reasons and number available). You can also limit how often they can take loans (once per year, etc.). -

I always wondered what happened to Epstein. I wonder what Freddie "Boom-Boom" Washington is doing these days. I'm rooting for the red team. -

Must be Yankee fan! Looks like the threads are gone now. The good thing is that there are enough moderators running around here that things like this don't last long. BTW, the fastest way to report a questionable post is by clicking on the button located to the far right of the users name. -
Relius info: http://www.sungardcorbel.com/News/technica....asp?ID=276&T=P I know that Sungard is working on an update for Omniplus.

Personally, I would use two fields. I know I've used the currency symbol field for things other than $ and %, but I think using it for phrases is asking for trouble down the road. Especially if not-so adept people are using the report file or you are in a multi-user environment. For example, if you put "Wow. The total deferrals this year was:" in the currency field and a not-so adept user wanted it to say "Wowwie. The total deferrals this year was:" they would have an awful time finding it and making the change. If there are two fields (one being text), the user could easily see where to make the change. For your date example, I would use the following: ADP/ACP Nondiscrimination Test for Plan Year End "+ToText({PLANEEKMTEST.YRENDDATE},"MMMM dd, yyyy"). Crystal should take 12/31/2003 and convert it to December 31, 2003. I think your suggestions to put the prefix and suffix fields to work is a great idea, I don't agree they are the best solutions in your examples.

I'm moving this over to the "how-to" board as it isn't about Form 5500 (unless I'm a dope and completely missed the point here). You need an account to post. Most boards are setup like this to slow down spammers. I'm not sure a public account is the answer either as it might give people the green light to post willy-nilly nonsense. Maybe contact Dave to see what he can offer you.

Here's a stab in the dark: Click (from the top menu), REPORT->CHANGE GROUP EXPERT Select your first group (PLANEE.....) then click options At the bottom there is a "keep together" boxed checked. Uncheck this and press OK. Cross your fingers and refresh your data.
-
If you are in a hurry, you can attach the report here or email it to me and I will take a closer look. I don't have Relius so I won't be able to refresh the data, but I can poke around to see if I see anything else might be causing your page break.
-
Along Tom's idea, is the "keep together" option checked? It may be trying to "keep together" a group on the same page.

Archimage: What kind of file is it? If you send Dave an email, I'm sure he will add it to the list of acceptable file types. Be sure to give him the file extension (the three letters after the period in the file name). CAM223: I can't comment on how Relius is with importing/exporting, but I wouldn't send any important/sensitive documents through email. I'm far from a security expert, but I wouldn't want my SSN or compensation floating through email systems. At the very least password protect the Excel file with a long alpha-numeric password and make the client call you for the password. Alternatively, you could also provide for a file exchange on a secure web server or via diskette/cd and snail mail. Maybe the above has already been thought out, but wanted to throw those ideas out anyway.

Just a fun link for intellectually curious Yankee fans

I think the key word is "curious". -
After tax contributions are not included in taxable income so they are not subject to the 10% early withdrawal penalty. Here is a link to a Q&A that addresses this question (this Q&A was written prior to the tax law changes, as far as I know this part did not change): http://benefitslink.com/modperl/qa.cgi?db=...ibutions&id=129

I tried a few different things, but I wasn't able to create a file that could be filed (everything said, "for review only, do not file" where the barcodes are). If you are using the Relius software, the person has a high speed Internet connection and you have enough user licenses the trust officer could try and download the latest version of the software from Corbel's website and install it. You'd then need to find the actual file that holds the data and email that to them so they can open and print. This also assumes they have a decent enough printer to print filable forms. So, here's what I would do...save yourself some time and file the extension. The plan sponsor won't be thought of "late" or "tardy" or "lazy" for filing the extension.

Yep, link doesn't work anymore. Try going to the search page here: http://www.benefitslink.com/boards/index.p...act=Search&f=20 You can also click "search" in the upper right of the screen. Once on the search page, enter "loan and bankruptcy" (without the quotes) in the search box and press enter (if using Internet Explorer). You should get several matches.
-
I think the question is whether you can "gross up" the hardship amount and include taxes and penalties. According to the ERISA Outline Book (2001 edition, Chapter 6, Section IV Part C.4c) you can gross up the hardship amount for taxes and penalties. Also see, Treas. Reg. §1.401(k)-1(d)(2)(iv)(B)(1).

I'm sure some others will be by with some helpful information. In the meantime, you might want to do a search of the boards. This question has been discussed many times. Here's what I get when I search for "loan and bankruptcy": http://www.benefitslink.com/boards/index.p...+and+bankruptcy

Very Small - Under $10 - Balances
Fredman replied to ljr's topic in Distributions and Loans, Other than QDROs
I don't know of any IRS or DOL de minimus rules regarding distributions. From your details, I gather that you need to payout (sounds like a second payout) for lost participants. If so, do a search of these boards for "lost participants". Wait a sec, how about if I help you out. Click below to search the boards for lost participants. I think you'll find plenty of threads addressing similar situations. http://www.benefitslink.com/boards/index.p...ost+participant -
I would agree that in this case 4i should be marked "YES" and would add that if by "self-directed" you mean that participants have "brokerage" accounts that were aggregated for line 1c(15) you should also aggregate those accounts on one line for this as well. According to the instructions under NOTES for Schedule H, 4i schedules: (3) Participant-directed brokerage account assets reported in the aggregate on line 1c(15) should be treated as one asset held for investment for purposes of the line 4i schedules, except investments in tangible personal property must continue to be reported as separate assets on the line 4i schedules.
