AlbanyConsultant Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I've got a participant's CPA who is saying that because we haven't electroncially filed the 1099-Rs yet, if his client electronically files their 1040 it will bounce because there is no 1099-R at the IRS to match it up to. I don't think I've ever heard of this before - is this is thing? Thanks.
Bird Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I've heard something like that before. What does he expect you to do about it...? Ed Snyder

My guess is that they expect you to electronically file the 1099-Rs posthaste. Why haven't they been filed yet? Always check with your actuary first!

I don't think I've ever heard of this before - is this is thing? Thanks. It could be. A few years ago I had a 1099 with an incorrect SSN. I was not able to E-file because the IRS was unable to confirm the 1099 info on my return with the bad SSN. I was forced to either file a paper copy or wait for the issuer of the 1099 to file a corrected 1099. Sounds like this is the same type of situation. J
Tom Poje Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 maybe they are like me, I wait to file the 1099 electronically simply in case the forms get returned due to bad address, bad info or someone and then I don't have to file a corrected copy electronically. and then it gets busy due to testing and the 1099s get pushed to the bottom of things to do as long as it gets done by the end of the month granted, by this date, 3 weeks after sending out the copies to the participants, I guess you could argue that is enough time
Bill Presson Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 As long as you're not late in filing the 1099s electronically, it's not really your problem. david rigby, Lou S. and K2retire 3 William C. Presson, ERPA, QPA, QKA bill.presson@gmail.com C 205.994.4070

That's our viewpoint, too. But it's nice to know so we can answer the question. :) Bill Presson 1
